Rogers Elementary School
April 3, 2020
Dear Families:
I hope you are all doing well as we make our way through these challenging times. I know these are stressful times that have caused a great deal of uncertainty. Please take the time to care for yourselves and loved ones. Unwind through activities you enjoy, focus on calming strategies and feeling gratitude for the positive we have in our lives. Take breaks from listening to news stories, including social media. Take deep breaths, stretch, and go outside to enjoy the amazing city we live in. I have included links to support your family’s social-emotional well-being:
Resources for Resilience – Videos/information to develop resiliency skills for children and caregivers
Let’s Play! – Play-based activities for BC Families
Talking to Kids about Covid-19 – Greater Victoria School District March Snapshot
SEL Resources – Social-Emotional Learning Resources for Families during the Response to Covid-19
In addition, you can find updated information with frequently asked questions and answers, ways to keep yourself and family safe and the BC COVID -19 Symptom Self-Assessment Tool at https://www.healthlinkbc.ca/health-feature/coronavirus-disease-covid-19
Remember to use social distancing, stay at home and wash your hands regularly so that we may all stay safe.
Take care and stay healthy. Please say hi to your children for us.
On behalf of Rogers Staff,
Cindy Sanderson

Pick up Schedule for Essential Student Supplies
Teachers have put together a package for you to pick up in our gym. Please have 1 adult come to the school at their designated time, entering through the outside gym door. Please remain 2 meters apart both outside and inside the gym. Tables have been set up with your child’s/children’s division identified along with their name on the outside of a black bag. Only essential items have been included in the bag. Classrooms are locked and not accessible at this time.
Scheduled dates and times were created alphabetically by the use of your family last name.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping to make this process a smooth and successful one.
Monday, April 6th: Family Last Names
Please note: Families from Paddi Ross’s class, Division 12, do not have a student pack up to pick up. All student educational opportunities have been sent electronically and will continue to do so.

Rogers Library News
While stuck at home or at any time, Your School Library and our District-wide eLibrary are great places to stay connected with your school and fuel your curiosity. Both sites will be updated regularly, so check back often!
- Connect with Your School Library to see what your friends have been reading and recommending over this past year, preview new books you’ll be able to enjoy once we get back to school, and hear stories from Mr. Richey. …oh, and you can also check in our friends the Red Wigglers as they continue to feast on the lunch scraps you gave them before we left for Spring Break:)
- eLibrary is your window to a larger world. Here you’ll find lots of sites recommended by Teachers and Librarians around the District. Some of these may require usernames and passwords for use outside of the school. Click here and bookmark this page for all that information. Soon you’ll find a Guided Inquiry Tool to help you explore areas of interest, develop probing questions, and enhance your understanding of whatever it is you’re curious about. I’ll provide more information about that next week.
While we are out of the school building, please hold on to and take good care of the books you brought home before the break. The weekly overdue / lost/ damaged book notices will be suspended until further notice.
Thanks!

Rogers Hike-a-Thon – Cancelled
Due to the current situation with school closures and COVID-19 we have unfortunately cancelled this year’s annual Hike-a-Thon. If your child has already received pledge funds please return those funds directly when safe to do so.
We know how much the students worked hard to raise funds, and looked forward to this event and it’s prizes. We will work hard to make next years the best one yet!
