Basketball Team
Today was our first lunch hour basketball team practice! We will be playing on Wednesdays and Fridays at lunch recess until mid-February when we will wrap up the fun with a mini-jamboree! A big thank you to Mrs. Cristante for coaching our children!
School-wide Assembly – Thursday, January 16th at 9 am
We will be focusing on the Aboriginal teachings, Respect and Love, followed by a surprise announcement!! Come on out and hear about it!!
INCLEMENT WEATHER PROTOCOL
It is a priority for the Greater Victoria School District to communicate effectively to parents, students and community partners during inclement weather. With snow in our forecast for this upcoming week, the District would like to remind families of its inclement weather protocol and where to find information about the determination of school closures.
The District assesses weather conditions on a daily basis and puts every effort into making a determination by 6:30 a.m. of whether or not schools will remain open. The status of schools and transportation is then provided to local media and communicated to our community.
Inclement Weather Updates are provided through the following:
- School District website (www.sd61.bc.ca)
- Social Media Channels
- Twitter Account: @sd61schools
- Facebook Account: Greater Victoria School District, @sd61schools
- Local Media Outlets
The District is regularly monitoring local weather conditions and Environment Canada’s forecast, and will continue to do so over the weekend. Please stay connected with us for regular updates.
The Greater Victoria Region is broad and we understand that some areas may be more difficult to travel than others. It’s always a parent’s decision if you choose to keep your child home due to road conditions.

Floating Classroom and Exploring the Salish Sea
Divisions 14 and 15 are taking part in the School District’s Floating Classroom program. This program is rooted in the exploration of the Coast Salish Sea both from the land and by boat. This program focuses on students making connections to our local natural environments and cultural history. Over several sessions, students work with Naturalists both in the classroom and out in the Salish Sea. Students will research and create a project of their learning from their experiences and present their learning at a day of celebration at the Royal BC Museum. This hands-on experiential opportunity is a wonderful way for students to learn more about environmental stewardship and to gain knowledge about our local historical, cultural, marine and natural environments.
